CASA Grande Winter Chain - March 9-14

Temps in the 70's light winds in the morning from the East deminishing by afternoon greet Arizona Winter Chain shooters at Casa Grande today-March 12.  Don Ackerson led North Dakota Singles shooters with a 98, Leonard Raddohl wins Class C with a 95, Gerald Wendel wins vets with a 97 and ties Orrin Johnson and two or three others for Vets handicap with a 95.

Orrin Johnson leaves for Colorado tomorrow.  Word is Bill Suda was in Grand Forks this morning.  Many North Dakota Shooters left after the Spring Grand.  Most of those here now though plan to leave after the Arizona State Shoot in Tucson the end or March with some staying a bit longer going home via the Southwestern Grand in San Antonio. The weather in Casa Grande should be very favorable for shooting Saturday's and Sunday's championship targets.  This was my last Casa Grande visit for the season.  I'll be shooting the next Winter Chain Shoot at Ben Avery next week.

Don Volz the owner and operator of the Casa Grande Trap Facility is pictured with Stan Petz the president of the Capital City Gun Club, Bismarck, and Eugene Bert, Saskatchewan. Stan broke a 96 in yesterday's singles and 92 in the handicap while Eugene broke a 93 in Friday's Handicap.

The Casa Grande club house. Note the plaques on the walls. A plaque is put up for each persons first 100 at the club.

Tiger and Don Volz owners and operators of the Casa Grande Facility at the Classification and Cashiering counter with Laurie and Terri manning their stations.  They have just recently added a skeet field and I believe a five stand facility on the grounds.

Frank Conrad in front of his FMR Concessions stand. He serves the best foot long hot dogs and cheeseburgers that Arizona offers!

Kevin Countryman, Ohio, Orrin Johnson, Stan Petz, Gerald Wendel, Don Ackerson all ND, and Bill Lennie, Arizona just finishing lunch. Don Ackerson led North Dakotans in today's singles with a 98. Gerald Wendel won Vets with a 97. Yesterday Gerald broke a 99 in the singles winning Vets. Orrin Johnson and Gerald Wendel were tie for today's Vets handicap with 95's at the time I left the club.

Maida my Lab was 13 today.

Maida turned 13 today-looks pretty good for 13 doesn't she?  Looks can be deceiving; however, just don't know how long she will keep going...would like one more hunting season, but that might be asking too much.

Many times All American Gerald Moro, Washington, Al Connerly, Idaho, and Ken Stevens, Oregon on Deck. Gerald says he's shooting isn't what he would like, but he did break a 100 in the Singles at Ben Avery last week. Gerald has shot the ND State Shoot a number of times over the years while on his way to Iowa, the Central Zone and the Grand.
