Arizona Winter Chain - Casa Grande - January

Returned about an our ago from Casa Grande.  Weather was very nice.  In the 70's with a light breeze from the East.  Shooters shooting today from ND were: Orrin Johnson, Leonard Raddohl, Jim Buening, Carl Anderson, Jim Harchenko and Stan Petz.

No winners today at the time I left, but may have been in the doubles.  Stan Petz big North Dakota winner so far in this shoot winning five trophies including a Vet singles and Doubles and three handicap trophies.  He broke a 95 to win a preliminary handicap.  This shoot along with the prior Casa Grande shoot he has won a total of two yards putting him back to 25 yards.  At the earlier Casa Grande Shoot over the Holidays he collect 4 trophies.  Both Carl Anderson and Leonard Raddohl have won Class Trophies so far at this shoot.

Last weekend at the Ben Avery Shoot North of Phoenix Gerald Wendel broke a 199 to win Vets.  Although he may be at Casa Grande tomorrow I did not see him there today.  Dennis and Jan Klipfel are also expected tomorrow and may stay through Sunday.

Next week shooters will be going on the next stop in the chain...the Pin Shoot at Tucson.  Pin connotation comes from the fact that after certain numbers of years shooters get pins for attendance.  Five years, Ten years, Fifteen years etc.  Carl Andersons has a 30 year pin...no one in ND has one recognizing more years.  Mugs Aakrann when she died was a 40+ plus year attendee, but once a person is no longer shooting his or her name is dropped from the list in the back of the program.

Jim Harchenko, Casa Grande.  Jim tells me his problems this fall and winter have been car troubles.  He bought supposedly in very good shape  a 93 Lincoln from a lady who kept it in the garage and never drove it much for $2,000.  By the time he got to Arizona and numerous delays on the road getting this and that fixed he had put another $3,000 into it.  He was not especially pleased either with his 84 in today's handicap.
